Keeps us young

VITAMIN E is only found in plants and microorganisms. Good sources are vegetable oils, especially wheat germ, sunflower and walnut oil. Cereal germs, nuts and seeds also contain an abundance of this substance. Nowadays, many foods such as margarine and multi-vitamin juices are enriched with a synthetic, biologically active form of vitamin E.

Its principle role is to catch radicals. It thereby protects hormones, enzymes and cell membranes from aggressive substances. It also inhibits unsaturated fatty acids in the oils from reacting with oxygen and thereby turning rancid.

The aging process is supposedly associated with uncontrolled reactions of free radicals. Vitamin E slows down cellular aging and together with vitamin C and beta-carotene (= ACE combination of vitamins) it inhibits the development of cataracts. Besides that it is utilized in the prophylaxis and treatment of various children’s diseases and of many illnesses that occur in prematurely born infants.

TIP!
Use only cold-pressed oils, since only they contain high concentrations of vitamin E! This substance is destroyed in the oil refining process.
